Checkpoint Charlie ♥ Card game

mayo 31, 2019 0
Checkpoint Charlie ♥ Card game
¡Hola, confettis!

Hello, confettis!
Today I want to show you a game a friend got me for my birthday and that it's addictive! It's called Checkpoint Charlie and its plot is: at the height of Cold War, K-Nine hound dogs are watching Checkpoint Charlie. Each of them is part of a different investigation agency, and they all want to be the first to find the chief of cat spies, who is trying to sneak across to the other side of the Berlin Wall...

This game is perfect for working on descriptions, logical thinking, memory, History...

> Edad / Age: 10+
> Tiempo / Time: 30 min.
> Jugadores / Players: 3-5
> Precio / Price: 16,20€
> Idioma / Language: ¡el que queráis! / whatever you like!

HOW DO WE PLAY?
Each player will be a dog from an investigation agency and will have to guess who is the chief of spies. How? Guessing his characteristics:
- With or without a hat.
- With or without a newspaper.
- With or without sunglasses.
- With or without a trench coat.
- Orange or grey.
Each player will have a chip with one of the characteristics and will have to guess which are the ones the other players have and get to pick the chief.

With that aim, in turns, each player will take a cat card from the deck and will place it above their dog card if it has their characteristic (for instance, wears a hat) or next to the dog card if he hasn't (doesn't wear a hat). That way, looking at everyone's cats each player will choose the cat they think is the chief.

When four players have picked their cat, they will all show the characteristics they had hidden. They will check the chosen cats and, depending on the number of correct characteristics, they will earn yellow, white or black stars. Whoever gets more points after as many games as you want, wins!

Math Energizers ♥ Energizantes Matemáticos

Math Energizers ♥ Energizantes Matemáticos
¡Hola, confettis!

Hello, confettis!
At the beginning of each Maths session, I like to give my little ones some kind of game, riddle or puzzle for getting them to dive into the subject and starting warming-up their brains. They are great as a little brain break and for catching their attention! Here I leave my 5 favourite maths energisers:

1. El círculo / The Circle

Simple, yet effective! Draw a big circle on your whiteboard and write numbers inside and out of it. A single rule must be followed: the numbers that are written in the circle must have something in common (e.g. be even, end in 6, be multiples of 7...). Your students will have to guess which is the rule the ones in the circle follow. And they don't need to be random numbers, they can be operations, shapes... Whatever you want!

2. ¿Cuál no encaja? / Which one doesn't belong?

The web page Which one doesn't belong? offers a wide variety of sets with four elements in which students will have to find a reason why each one doesn't belong. There isn't just one answer, the idea is that children have to reflect, think and express their reasons why they believe a certain element doesn't belong there.
Categories: shapes, numbers, graphs and equations and incomplete sets.
Difficulty: from natural numbers to equations and trigonometry.
Grades: all!

3. El Sol / The Sun

I discovered this game thanks to an ABN workshop I attended in my school. You have to place a number in the middle and think of all the different operations that lead us to it. It's perfect for working on decomposing and mental arithmetic! And the best thing is that it works with all groups and grades, as the difficulty level can be easily adjusted.

4. Dados / Dice

Play with dice! My favourite ones for playing the game with the whole class are the big carton or plastic ones, so that everyone gets to see their numbers. Throw them and, depending on what you're working on, you can add, subtract, multiply or divide the numbers. Then, we usually invent a problem that can be solved using that operation.
TIP: use dice with more than 6 faces!

5. Noggle

My little ones' favourite game! Present them a panel with 16 numbers (4x4) and tell them a random one. They will have to try to get to that number operating with the panel numbers that are "touching" (right, left, up or down).

Next - Robótica en el aula ♥ Robotics for the classroom
¡Hola, confettis!

Hello, confettis!
Today I have shared on Instagram (@colourmeconfetti) this little robot that we are going to include in our lessons. It's called Next 2.0 and its from Edelvives, a publishing house. As we are in Primary 2, this is our robot. Kindergarten teachers in my school have Next 1.0 and we have yet to implement Lego Education WeDo 2.0 from Primary 3 to 6.

The robot comes with a box with various mats of different content and subjects: Spanish, Maths, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences.

The best part? It includes a plastic mat with different pockets for us to place whatever flashcards we want! 😍

6. Pausa.
7. X - Eliminar lo que hemos pulsado.

Today we've tried it for the first time in our Maths fun weekly session and... it's been a huge success! How does it work? The robot has to be placed on a square and has to get to another one. In order to do that, students will have to think of the path they want to follow and press the different buttons. Once they're ready, they will press "play" and... Next will begin his journey!

The buttons are the following ones:
1. Forward.
2. Backwards.
3. Turn right.
4. Turn left.
5. Play - for the robot to start the string.
6. Pause.
7. X - erase what we've pressed.

¡Infinitas posibilidades!

My little ones have had a great time and there wasn't a kid who wasn't paying attention. We've seen different paths that lead to the same point, we've identified various ways of representing a number... I've also made them think of a path that goes through certain spots. The possibilities are endless!

In addition, as they saw the path Next was following based on what they had pressed, it's a self-correcting resource, as they have seen that, depending on the perspective, instructions change. That's why, they've tried various combinations in order to help Next achieve his goal. As you can see, we've worked on spatial orientation, laterality, estimating, sequencing... and, of course, curricular content.

And not only can it be operated by using its buttons, but also through the Next 2.0 Edelvives app with your phone or your tablet!

As we continue working with it, I will keep you informed. For the time being, the first impression has been great.

♥ Rush Hour ♥
¡Hola, confettis!

Hello, confettis!
Here's a perfect game for working on spatial orientation and logic. It's called Rush Hour and it's from the company Thinkfun.

> Edad / Age: 6+
> Tiempo / Time: 5- 10 min. por reto / per challenge
> Precio / Price: 17,95€
> Idioma / Language: ¡el que queráis! / whatever you want!

The game includes a plastic board where you can place various transports according to the picture we find in the cards. It's recommended for 8-year-old children, but kids from Primary 1 and 2 can perfectly play. It will all depend on the level of the challenge.

The game includes 40 cards (with the answer) divided into four difficulty levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert. In addition, it has 12 cars and 4 lorries, part of them will be placed on the board following the instructions found in the cards.

HOW DO WE PLAY?
First of all, we have to take one of the cards and place it in the corresponding slot. Then, we need to place the different vehicles as they appear on the picture. What is the objective? Letting the red car leave the board. (In my case the orange one, the red one is MIA)

And look at this detail! The board as a little drawer for keeping all of the cards with the challenges.

Plus, it includes a little cloth bag for tidying everything up once we are finished playing!

¿Qué trabajamos?
↠ Los transportes.
↠ Agudeza y discriminación visual.
↠ Orientación espacial.
↠ Memoria.
↠ Lógica.
↠ Estrategia.

HUH ♥ What is in the wardrobe?
¡Hola, confettis!

Hello, confettis!
Today I want to share with you the perfect game to work on memory and clothing vocabulary-related: HUH - What is in the wardrobe?

> Edad / Age: 5+
> Tiempo / Time: 15 min.
> Precio / Price: 17,95€
> Idioma / Language: ¡el que queráis! / whatever you want!

I discovered this game by Marbushka thanks to a gamification and role-playing games in the classroom workshop given by Óscar Recio Coll (http://mrwolfteachingcorner.blogspot.es/). He presented this game and various ways of using it, so here they are!

Incluye 10 tarjetas grandes (correspondientes a tu armario) y 40 pequeñas (ropa suelta).

The aim of the game is remembering what garments you have in your wardrobe, as there is a blue-haired monster that touches your clothes, tries them on... and he's the reason why sometimes you can't find them! It includes 10 big cards (corresponding to your wardrobe) and 40 little ones (single garments).

HOW DO WE PLAY?
Option 1
Distribute 5 garments (small cards) to each player without looking at them. Place the wardrobe (big card) in the middle and let the players memorise it and then turn it around. Now players will look at their cards and pick which ones were in the wardrobe. They will get a point per correct card.
Option 2
Show your students a wardrobe. They will have to describe the clothes in it. If they don't get them correct, the monster will keep them all! If you teach younger kids, you can play with only the garments and, if they get one wrong, the monster will keep it.
Option 3
Show a wardrobe and display all of the garments in it, plus another one. Children will have to spot the one that doesn't belong.
Option 4
Place random garment cards and let your kids memorise them. Then, ask them to close their eyes and remove one of the cards. They will have to guess which one the monster took in order to get it back!

¿Qué trabajamos?
↠ La ropa.
↠ Descripción.
↠ Adjetivos.
↠ Memoria.
↠ Trabajo en equipo.
↠ Agudeza visual.

What do we work on?
↠ Clothes.
↠ Description.
↠ Adjectives.
↠ Memory.
↠ Team work.
↠ Visual acuity.

Dart Board! ♥ ¡Diana!

Dart Board! ♥ ¡Diana!
¡Hola, confettis!
¡Mirad qué diana tan cuqui me llevé!

Hello, confettis!
As I told you though Instagram, the other day I went to Tiger in order to take advantage of the teacher discount card they offer. Look at the super cute dart board I got! I bought two: one for me and another one for my teacher partner.

Tiene dos caras:
- Diana con los números del 1 al 20.
- Números del 1 al 20 sueltos distribuidos al azar.

It has two faces:
- Dart board with numbers 1-20.
- Numbers 1-20 randomly distributed.

It's price is 3€, It's made of a very soft fabric and it's lightweight, which makes it really easy to handle. In addition, it includes a little strap that allows us to hang it and play better with it.

It comes with two plastic balls covered in velcro what stick perfectly to both of the boards.

HOW I USE IT:
My plan is to use it in Maths for working on the four basic mathematical operations (adding, subtracting, multiplication and division) and probability (sure, possible, impossible). You could also assign a question to each number and play it like a Trivia game or, as teacher Judith (http://elracodefemmusica.blogspot.com/) suggested, use it for choosing volunteers!

What other ways of using this dart board can you think of?
