My first 10 books ♥ Mis 10 primeros libros

¡Hola, confettis!

Hello, confettis!
I think we all teachers agree on the importance that reading and encouraging children to read for pleasure has. That's why, today I want to share with you the first 10 books I bought when I started my teacher personal collection and that, every time I've read them, my little ones have loved them.
There's a huge more, but if you're starting your own library from scratch and you want to know where I began, keep reading!

1. The Gruffalo

The Crown Jewel! The Gruffalo is a Julia Donaldson's tale (I love everything this woman creates) that tells the story of a mouse who takes a stroll through the wood and runs into other animals. Inventiveness, cleverness and imagination allow the mouse to escape but... be careful! What you imagine can come true...
The best part, apart from the illustrations and the rhymes, is the great variety of content that it allows us to work on (animals, food chain, where do animals live...). In addition, in http://www.gruffalo.com/ you will find a lot of resources and activities.

2. The Gruffalo's Child

I couldn't buy The Gruffalo without getting the second part too: The Gruffalo's Child. This time, the Gruffalo tells his daughter everything about a terrible being that lives in the wood: the mouse. In spite of this, she decides to get out of the cave on a cold winter's night and venture in pursuit of such a scary creature. Will she find him?

3. The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Another must! The Very Hungry Caterpillar, from the amazing Eric Carle, tells the story of a tiny and hungry caterpillar that eats different food throughout the week. On Sunday, he builds a cocoon and two weeks later... he turns into a beutiful butterfly!
It's perfect for working on the days of the week, numeracy, food, the life cycle of butterflies and other insects...

4. Press Here

This Hervé Tullet's book is magical! It starts with a yellow dot that, by pressing it, shaking it, tilting the book (and turning pages) it's multiplied, it changes its colour, its size... When I showed it to my class they were AMAZED by it! There wasn't a single kid that did not pay attention.

5. Handa's Surprise

This book by Eileen Browne introduces us to Handa, a girl that prepares a basket with seven different fruits for her friend, Akeyo. During her journey, various animals eat the fruit from her basket without Handa even noticing until it's empty! What will Handa give Akeyo?
Just for the illustrations and the colours, it's worth it showing this book to your students. Plus, it includes a wide variety of vocabulary related to tropical fruits and African animals that is broken down at the beginning and at the end of the book with a picture and the corresponding name.

6. Elmer
